Ideas to improve your garage

Everyone always stores the things they no longer need or want in the garage. This space has to store all of those items together with the car(s), lawn mower, bicycles, and other gardening tools. The garage is generally an area people skip to clean and organize.

Below are a few ideas to get you started to improve your garage.

•          Paint – The drywall in many garages is left bare. Painting can make the garage space look much better, and if your floor is concrete, you might want to paint that, too. You can also experiment with different colors, and you might even want to re-paint the inside of your home.  

•          Storage for your tools – Wall mounts, that you can customize according to your needs, are excellent for keeping your brooms, shovels and other “tall” gardening tools organized, and not piled up on the floor.

•          The garage door – The first item on your renovation list should be the garage door, especially if it is broken or started to fall apart. You might even want to consider changing a manual door for an automated one, where you can just press a button and it automatically opens for you.

•          More shelving and storage – You may have too many items stored in your garage, so it feels as if the garage is ready to burst with all the clutter. Thinking vertically and up enables you to have more space. Wall shelves are affordable and easy to install. You can also look at some sealing storage ideas if you need more space.

•          Add a sink – Since most garages have plumbing lines, it is easy and inexpensive to install a sink. Here, your family can clean up before entering the house, thus saving your carpets.

•          Stain Removal – Paint that has spilled and oil that has leaked out makes the floor of your garage look terrible. A power wash, laundry detergent and baking soda are a good start for stains.

•          Enlarged living space – Your house may feel a little too small sometimes, and you can easily extend some living space to the garage. You can install a TV, a rug and a sofa and have your very own “man-cave.” Or you can move a study desk and chair and a PC and have your very own home office.

Renovating and improving your garage is not difficult; but you do need time and some ideas. Cleaning is the first step, and then going through everything and sorting the items into different piles – what you want to keep, sell or throw away. If you then look at what you plan to keep, it should already be a lot easier to plan and organize and improve your garage.
